To live in today's world is to live with change, and lots of it! During my life time I have lived with parents who endured the great Depression of the 1930s and the trials of World War II. We see now before us communication abilities and technology advanced that daily astound our eyes and imagination. Indeed this is an exciting age to live in, and we are grateful to be a part of it and to see the positive changes in it, for both ourselves and others we associate with. For this purpose we introduce: We have seen the wisdom of joining millions who now utilize the Internet by setting up www.glorycarpetcleaning.com to provide helpful information for all our customers. We eventually plan to provide CDs to supplement any customers who never elect to get online. We have found reasonable and responsible providers. If you are interested please call me or email to cplanyon@freewwweb.com. On our site we provide our literature redesigned for the internet, recommendations of other sites of great usefulness to our customers, and updated news, including this Homeland Newsletter. We welcome your input. Thanks for allowing us to be your carpet and upholstery cleaning choice!

The mills are in the process of producing a new
"old" fiber. Due to new technology, the 50 year old
fiber Polytrimethylene Terephthalate (PTT) is now coming to the
carpet industry. It is being tagged as The "New"
Polyester. Its advantages over the old are 1) lower dye heat-set
properties, 2) stain resistance with resilience
comparable to nylon, and 3) the durability of olefin and
polyester. It's disadvantage will be, as with polyester and
olefin, susceptibility to oils soil and shoe polish. Dye blockers
are used on nylon for protection, and may be useful on this as
well. How useful will PTT be? The marketplace alone will reveal
its value when it appears later this fall. Information for this
article was taken from Installation & Cleaning
Specialist, February, 1999, p.16. www.icsmag.com
Many have claimed Hot water Extraction or "Steam" Cleaning of carpets actually damages carpets. While any untrained worker can damage any carpet with any process, few carpets have ever been actually damaged by the correctly applied procedure of Hot-Water Extraction. We prefer the above term instead of "Steam Cleaning" since it is more accurate. Extraction cleaning uses the same basic process the automatic clothes washer found in your own home uses. Cleaning involves four ingredients often referred to the "Cleaning Pie!"
It is physics-- the physical properties of evaporation and wicking that are actually responsible for the effectiveness of carpet cleaning technology. Once the chemical with heated water is sprayed on a thoroughly vacuumed carpet, soil (with a needful amounts of agitation) is broken loose from the fibers and backing and becomes suspended in the detergent solution. The wand comes next delivering a bit more pressurized agitation (usually about 500 psi) through it's rinsing action. Water mixed into the rinsing solution has wetting agents aiding removal of both cleaning agents and the soil itself. The most important time for carpet cleaning is the final hour
of drying time. It is this time that the deepest dirt appears if
it was not cleaned when the technician was present. We use a
window in our wand to better enable vision of the extraction
process. In a deeply penetrated spot, after doing our best to
extract, we recommend that the customer leave an absorbable cloth
to collect the portion of the spot most likely to reappear. This
has often made a very happy customer, and prevented a recleaning
visit for us. As many of you know, we use Hoover vacuums. A few years ago,
we heard about a publication from Hoover recommended in one of
our magazines. We ordered and found it to be an excellent review
of the carpet industry starting at the Babylonian carpet weavers
before 3000 B.C. to the present. Copyrighted in 1996, it is a
50-page, glossy cover, full-color book selling for $4.50 when we
ordered it. It is excellent for school educational purposes;
contains dozens of charts, graphs, full color pictures, and
illustrations. Also included at the end is a 4-page "Care
& Cleaning of Carpet" Section, plus a 20 item
bibliography --and concludes with a 2 page glossary of 59 terms.
We plan to keep this as a permanent edition of our family library
resource shelf. Once you order, we believe you'll be grateful you
did as well. Order from : The Hoover Company, (101 East Maple
Street), North Canton, OH 44720. We continue to be grateful for the excellent work being done by the professionals at IICRC. Six business-owning volunteers are behind the work there. I sent a corrective note about a technical problem with their web site, and it was responded to in a prompt and professional manner. The problem was immediately corrected. We encourage you to see their web site. The only thing not available there is the carpet cleaning document IICRC S101. This is a good booklet for significant facts about carpet cleaning. We are anticipating the completion and release of the
upholstery cleaning standard as well. The carpet industry is uniting and developing more. With all
the advances in technology, manufacturers and retailers and
others in the carpet chain are uniting to benefit you. If you
have access to the internet, we encourage you to visit a location
that will help you select the carpet you really want, yet will be
right for the application. The place is: http://www.carpet-rug.com/designer/default.htm,
a part of CRI's attractive site. Though still being modified, it
contains much helpful information if you're thinking of buying
carpet in the near future, you'll get help on how to choose from
use, quantity, cost, color, feel, performance, cushion and
reputable retailers. It contains a printable "Records of
Purchase" to track and get all the info you would need to
know before purchasing. We are looking forward to a visit from Grandma for Easter. She comes to us from central Ohio, and loves spending as much time with us as possible. We love her dearly. DAVID is making great advances in showing creativity and self-discipline. He shows self-initiative in his studies, and faithfully reads a chapter of the Bible each day and each night. He helps Dad willingly and advances in school with earnest desires to learn. We are very grateful to see his progress. JOSEPH loves to be outside, even though he has the warm weather nature of his mother. He often asks to take a walk, breaks ice in the puddles and throws rocks in the pond near our house. His favorite game now is Sorry. He already recognizes the, God, one, and many other short words. His cheerful disposition is very much appreciated in our home. CHRIS is always busy with home, church and school. She now has new glasses making everything she does much easier for her! She stays busy cooking, teaching, cleaning, teaching, bookkeeping, and serving people. PAT stays busy whenever customers call for work. The winter has been spent getting the business on the Internet. He greatly enjoys leading music at Truth Baptist Church for Sunday evenings and Wednesdays. Thanks for allowing us to be a part of your home too. We appreciate your family-- it is one of the reasons we ask for first names when new calls come in. You are special, to us and to the Creator! "I will praise You,
for I am fearfully
and wonderfully made; marvelous are your works and that my soul
knows very well. Psalm 139.14 We would like to invite you to consider joining our automatic rescheduling program. It is a guarantee that you will always receive the lowest price available from us.
